Obesity Linked to Stupidity!!!!!

So my update from yesterday got me thinking about how Obese people and stupidity may go hand in hand. Obesity=Stupidity or Stupidity=Obesity. I thought, you know, this seems like it is very true. From that Big girl "walking" her bike being a complete moron or to other people you may know who say or do the most idiotic things while stuffing their faces with endless unneeded calories.

I shall post some News-Links along with a brief description of the link to show I am not the only one who has thought of this comparison!

Problem Obesity= More Fat More Stupid

Overweight or obese not only be harmful to health because it can be a risk factor for heart disease, stroke and diabetes, but also can make your thinking ability decreases. The more fat, brain volume decreases.Research recently conducted American scientists conclude that the brains of people who are overweight (obesity) will begin to deteriorate when it reaches the age of 40 years.

In that study, scientists involved participants who varied with age range 40 to 60 years. Participants were divided into three groups based on body weight, normal, overweight (overweight) and obesity (overweight).
The three groups of participants were asked to solve complex problems and his brainactivity measured using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Results from the settlement of the problem indicates there is little difference in the participants of the three groups, but the image of MRI showed a decreasing function of the parietal lobe of the brain a significant part in the obese group.

Obesity linked to stupidity, brain scans show

A person's risk of cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes and hypertension is known to be linked to obesity, and now researchers have established that being overweight can also affect a person's brain.
In the journal Human Brain Mapping, Paul Thompson, a UCLA professor of neurology, and colleagues compared the brains of people who were obese, overweight, and of normal weight, to see if they had differences in brain structure. They found that obese people had 8 percent less brain tissue than people with normal weight, while overweight people had 4 percent less tissue.
"That's a big loss of tissue and it depletes your cognitive reserves, putting you at much greater risk of Alzheimer's and other diseases that attack the brain," noted Thompson. "But you can greatly reduce your risk for Alzheimer's, if you can eat healthily and keep your weight under control."

Obesity Epidemic in AmericaThe obesity epidemic is real.  In fact, it is estimated that by the year 2020, three out of four Americans will be obese.  This uncontrolled weight gain can be attributed to poor diet choices on a personal level, however can it also be said that the corporations and organizations that control our food are to blame?  What follows is an opinion piece from Justin Stoneman that appeared on HuffingtonPost.com.  What do you think?  Is America a big, fat, stupid nation? Is the obesity epidemic a result of corporate control over dietary recommendations?

America: A Big, Fat, Stupid Nation

- by Justin Stoneman
America, I love you. Sure, you’ve had your naughty moments, but what country hasn’t? Ultimately, I believe your filthy, battered heart is in the right place. This particular Irishman gazes over the ocean, happy to dream your dream.
Yet, the title staring down at you is said as ‘fact’. Disagree? OK, good, then let us begin…
Latest figures confirm the ridiculous: three out of four of you will be ‘overweight or obese’ by 2020. To gauge perspective: there are now more ‘fat’ people than ‘white’ people in America. Perhaps our bigots of the future will swing their hatred away from ‘race’ to the slim and healthy.
The shrinking minority are, indeed, the shrinking minority.
Stupid? Welcome to a population who know less about what they put into their mouths than they do about, well, take your pick…celebrities or cars or American Idol or iPhones? Animals have the intelligence to know what to eat and to never get fat (except the ones fed by humans). Yet that simple challenge, gaining nourishment without destroying the body, is beyond your capabilities?
Perhaps this crime is forgivable, purely symptomatic of the dietary ‘misinformation’ in circulation. However, the truly unforgivable stupidity has been in allowing this misinformation to propagate. To have believed the lies, to have fallen for the tricks, to have remained oblivious to the motives. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
“Insanity,” declared Einstein. “Is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” Was the sharp little man predicting your strategy against the impending obesity epidemic? Thirty years of repeating the same mistakes. Not just failing to halt the crisis, but actually exacerbating it.

homer-simpson-brainUniversity of Pittsburgh study found that obese people have 8% less brain tissue than people of normal weight, and merely overweight people have 4% less brain tissue than people of normal weight. Obesity is classified as having a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 30 and above. Someone is overweight if their BMI falls within 25 and 30.
The researchers scanned the brains of 94 elderly people.  Although the test participants were elderly, they were all  cognitively normal. They were not afflicted by brain degenerating diseases such as Alzheimer or Parkinsons. According to Dr. Paul Thompson, a UCLA professor of neurology, just a 4% loss of brain tissue represents“severe” brain degeneration.
So not only can being fat affect your health, we now have evidence that if affects your intelligence.  Of course, we don’t know for sure if the deficiency in brain tissue caused people to be fat, or if the fat caused the loss in brain tissue.

Hmmm, so what did we learn today? That FAT people have 8% less brain tissue! I knew I was right! Another reason why thin will always be "in"  because it IS healthy, and why never caving in to unnecessary calories is the RIGHT choice to make.
There is no better way to embrace Ana then to always remember that self-control and dedication are things that FAT/Stupid people are not capable of and are only suited for the Intelligent Beautiful Beings like Ourselves. <3
